Would you rock these?

Would your kid? Would you buy them if you knew they were endorsed by the N.Y. Knicks' Stephon Marbury? Ok? Well how about if they only cost $15? You heard right. A black pro athlete with a shoe deal -- who's only charging 15 bucks for the sneakers.
Shrewd business move, or image killer? Who knows. Black kids since the Jordan era have typically shunned cheap sneaks. Marbury could be about to take a big loss here. Or, he could be onto something, or just out to make the point that there are more important things in life than shoes that cost more cash than you've got in your bank account. It'll be interesting to see how this one turns out.

I just bought a pair. This past weekend

And then 3 more pair for friends of mine.

And then I called my friends and they all bought some.

This is one of the few business decisions that I can call a win-win. Steve & Barry's has generated never-before-seen foot traffic through their stores (keep in mind "Starbury" brand doesn't just mean basketball kicks: they have casual shoes, boots, clothing, hats....all reasonably priced)

Steph gets great publicity...perfect for this understated guy from brooklyn. Plus his profit sharing deal with an exclusive retailer is going to be the new model for Sports endorsements.

And we get great shoes (I played ball in them today) for 15 bucks...considering they were probably made in the same factory as Nike's Jordans in the far east.

kudos.

Props to Marbury for having $15 sneakers. Personally I hope he's making a point to these youngins money isn't everything. Will the shoes sell? I think so, he's still an athlete and like Mike, kids wanna be like Marbury, it's just that now they don't have to break the bank to do so. And to think, I wasted over $800 on Jordans in the 90s...damn!
